I recently posted a YouTube video, first in my new series, How to Use Garbage in Your Games. It’s about using pizza box separators as terrain in your Dungeons and Dragons or Pathfinder (or other) games. There are some things I like about the video, and things I kind of like, and things I will do differently.
First, here is the video:
Things I Like:
First, I like that I actually did something I told myself I was going to do. It’s not necessarily easy to put yourself out there, but, there I am, talking to the 20-30 of you that will watch it……One of the things I’m working on is not being so critical, not quite there yet…..
Second, I think the concept is good. There is plenty of plastic out there, and the idea of using the legs to make stakes in the ground worked well.
Third, I managed to do a bit of demoing of technique, which is one of my goals for these videos.
Things I Kind of Like:
I think, especially for my first time editing, that the editing is pretty good. Sure, I did two other videos, but this one required me to splice together multiple takes. Resolve 16 is a great tool (here is my early review, btw).
I’m not sure pizza is still delivered with pizza box separators! Is it?
The beginning and ending are decent, but I have ideas for making them better. That will come out in the second video.
The paint jobs look ok, but….
Things I Will do Differently:
I’ll definitely work on doing a better job of painting and making the outcomes look like I want them. I was working hard to get the video out, and didn’t want to undo a bunch of painting, and then do it again (well, again and again…..:) ).
A friend suggested maybe making that into three short videos. And idea could be one about tables, one about the stakes, and the failed attempts that I learned from. I could also organize the videos like that, but …. I’m hoping these are more like 10 minutes long. So, ya. Still thinking about this.
I did a lot of filming and work, but it wasn’t planned out as a video. It was done as a project. I need to think about how these work as videos more, and plan the filming more.
Final Thoughts on How to Use Pizza Separators in Your Game
Overall, I like the video. I like the work. I like the content.
It would be great if I cold get a haircut…….
