This is a writeup of what the characters in my Eberron campaign experienced upon entering Sharn. Before this, they had fought off a military group trying to take over a lightning rail. One of their rewards for saving the train and passengers (and for their silence about the incident) was free use of a home in one of the middle class areas of Sharn.
This adventure includes parts from the 3e adventure Forgotten Forge (and a 5e conversion I bought on DMSUILD), and Fired and Forgotten from DMSGUILD (Sharn Chicken in this part).
The party hears cheers not too far away, and heads that way to see what the noise is. A member of the Adventurers Guild and asks them to join the games. It would be great for the heroes of the Rail to be in the contest. Zan wonders how she knows about this, and she says there were 23 people on the train, and secrets don’t last long in Sharn. Three of the heroes agree to play, the other two don’t seem interested at all.
The three and about 15 others are given feather fall tokens and then jump off a high bridge. It will take about twenty seconds to fall that far. George encounters a bunch of crows on the way down, and can’t avoid them, but avoids using his feather fall. Unfortunately he later gets entangled in a wash line, and uses his token, failing the game. Branstorm crashes through a pane of glass being moved by two magwrights and immediately loses the game. Eko just avoids a traveling skycoach carrying a load of cabbages, encounters a zone where she seems to slow down, and she worries that others will think she used her token, but she glides through it, but when she attempts to grab a lottery ticket, she gets distracted and uses her token just before she hits a bridge.
Zan lost his 43 silver betting on Eko to win, while Yuri won quite a bit of money betting on some random person. While George was slowly falling, he saw what he thought were two assassins moving toward Eko. He readied a spell, and thought about trying to get Zan’s attention, but realized he couldn’t do that and ready a spell. Fortunately, nothing bad happened. The woman from the guild gave them 500 gold for participating, and offered them membership in the guild. They agreed to think about it.
On their way to their house, they noticed a dead body on a bridge. Luckily for them, Branstorm could hear someone climbing under the bridge near them, even over the rain. Their guide panicked and ran behind the stairs they had just come down, while the rest of them defeated a warforged (but not before it was clear it hated George for working with flesh). A small party of her flew off, shaped like a humming bird or butterfly or something. There seemed to be no one around when the fight started, but afterward several people showed up just in time to accuse them of murder. Luckily, when the guard showed up, the lead guard knew their guide, and they weren’t arrested. They used Spare the Dying to keep the warforged alive.
She refused to talk to anyone but George, who had convinced her that he was randomly walking with this group of flesh and he wasn’t with them. She didn’t really answer much, though she made it clear she was working with the Lord of Blades. When they gave up getting much from her, they investigated the dead body, where they found a journal with blank pages (that didn’t feel like normal paper). It was covered in mythral thread, and was clearly valuable. The dead person was a scholar at the university that Zan wants to visit. They somehow kept the journal, and decided not to mention the Last Messenger to the guards (which they had asked about, so the party knew what had flown away).
And that concludes the party’s entrance into Sharn. The terrain in the not so great picture is old stuff that isn’t made anymore called Terraclips. We’ll see where we go next, but I’m pretty sure someone wants that journal……
