Unedited short movie reviews I wrote in 2019.
Note, these are unedited short movie reviews I posted on Facebook. I usually write these right after watching a movie, sometimes the next day. I don’t think there are swear words, but I can’t make any promises. Also note, I haven’t finished making this look pretty yet……And, at some point, some of these might be updated with links to longer reviews, but we’ll see.

On Netflix. Good movie. Not too predictable for a holiday movie, but somewhat. We enjoyed it. To be clear, the ending was sugar on top of syrup, predictable.

 The Ash Lad: In the Hall of the Mountain King
 A decent fantasy movie, from Norway. It is dubbed into English, but eventually that isn’t annoying. If you like fantasy, you will probably like this. If not…..well, there are lots of good movies.

 A classic martial arts movie. Get past the dubbed English…. And you can see how it influenced so much that came after. Good movie

 Streaming on Netflix. You will recognize this for what it is right away. A mockumentary. Entertaining, a few laugh out loud scenes, some truly bad scenes…. If you like Guest’s other work, you’ll probably like this a bit less, but like it.

 Sure, in the first five minutes you know the main plot, but it was still good. If occasionally predictable. It must have been less so when Hitchcock made it.

Bollywood movie. We’ve been meaning to watch one, but they are all so long! So we ate Mexican and watched one. Entertaining. Exactly what you’d expect. A rom com, with singing and dancing.

The Awakening of Motti Wolkenbruch
Hmmmm. We were entertained, but many of the female roles in this rom com are a bit shallow. The lead male breaks the fourth wall…. Which worked for me here. I have no idea if conservative Jews still act this way when it comes to marriage…. And it is dubbed into English, which added to it’s charm somehow.

Well filmed. And acted. And written and edited. I just was not entertained. I will discuss in the comments of people want.

from way back, starring Val Kilmer and uh, just forgot her name…..I can see why it didn’t become a series….I do think it doesn’t hold up well, in this era of how bond and other action movies are made.

I think I enjoyed this. It isn’t exactly happy, or filled with characters you’ll love. But as a character study of people trying to have a child, it was compelling to me. And, I was fascinated that the male star is actually younger than me. ..

Not for everyone. It’s a talker. I enjoyed it, but I’m not sure I was ever surprised, which, for a psychological thriller, may not be ideal.

1963….jaded modern audiences might guess some stuff, but we really enjoyed this one last night. Streaming on Prime.

Wowsers. 1966 movie starring Rock Hudson. Trippy psychological exploration of mid life crises and the fake American dream. As an older man, it was a fascinating study of what makes us unhappy. As a movie lover, I’m not sure if I enjoyed the experience or not. Pretty sure Julianne did not. It was panned when released, but gets great reviews now. On Prime.

Two good movies. I like how they seem like actual teenagers, at least more than many shows. The second end credit scene in homecoming might be the best ever…..

We think we’ve both seen it before…. But not all the way thru. Still a good movie, but the copy on Prime isn’t the highest quality. Recommended.
