After I watch a movie, I review it on Facebook. These are spur of the moment, and short. I’ve sorted them into categories based on how likely it is you like it. 2021 Reviews can be found by clicking on this link.
Movies I am pretty sure you will like
Glass Onion
Really good. The big guy is a really good actor. I mean, they all are, but no one gives him credit.…I think you’ll like this. Very much.
Bullet Train
Bloody funny. Really entertaining. Wait for the mid credit scene. (addendum: it is quite violent)
Spirited
Surprisingly good. Especially the meta parts and the choreography. Not at all subtle, but I laughed a lot. There is an end credits scene…. The number with the lights had great choreography, as did the credit song. (addendum: you won’t like it if for some reason you don’t like musicals / signing)
The People We Hate at the Wedding
I was amused pretty much the whole movie. Not exactly original….
Everything Everywhere All At Once
I loved everything except the point of the movie. Or maybe I don’t get the point. Seriously entertaining and original. So good. Except that one thing….
Love and Monsters
Recommend. Light hearted, entertaining, good message. We just liked ppl this movie. Definitely worth your time.
Everything Must Go
Will Ferrell…. Must be a comedy, right? Not even a little. Very serious, also quite good. He’s an underrated actor. It’s not a happy movie…..
I used to be famous
I liked this movie. Predictable at points, but it was well done
Barefoot
Really good. Quirky. I mean, an unrealistic ending, sure. But most everyone I know would like this. Admittedly, there isn’t the most action ever… It’s a quiet movie, for the most part. Her innocence is intriguing in terms of how we could all enjoy life more.
The Godfather
It’s true, I had somehow never seen this. Wow. Wow. Wow. So, so very good. Thank goodness it was made when it was, or the studio would have cut it to shreds. I had the opportunity to watch the next two, but have not yet. Really, the pacing and acting and music and writing….I loved it all. Certainly one of the best movies I’ve ever watched (though it isn’t one I’ll watch over and over).
Gravity
I enjoyed this movie quite a bit. I bet it would be even better on a real screen, rather than an airplane screen. I liked the tension and the sound a lot.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
We liked this quite a bit. It was relatively original and fun. I really liked the music, it fit the psychedelic feel.
No Time to Die
Mediocre. A thousand short range shots at Bond, no one hit him until the end. The villain was boring. It was too long by far. (addendum: likely the first time I’ve posted a negative review, but think most of you will like the movie)
Mr Roosevelt
Really liked this. Thought it might be a rom com when it started. Nope, just funny and original. Don’t watch if you don’t like sex or nudity! Really, check it out.
Jungle Cruise
As Nathan said, it’s a fun little movie. We definitely all laughed out loud.
Death on the Nile
Julianne figured it out right away. Pretty good movie, but it was slow and had filler. Could have been half as long? Anyway, not bad, not great.
Pig
Good movie. Not the most exciting, but we recommend it. Btw, it takes about ten minutes to cross that bridge and get to where they went, not hours…
The Dig
You’d think it would be boring, but it was quite good. I definitely recommend this movie. The acting was great, and the story was great.
Looper
I really liked this! I often predict endings. I got this one wrong. Definitely recommend.
Lovehard
Guess I needed to squeeze in one more Xmas rom com….. This was well written and had higher production values than many, which partly made up for it’s predictableness. I really misjudged the age of the protagonist dude…..if you like rom coms, you’ll like this one.
Mixtape
We both really liked this movie a lot. The world required a very different approach to learning before the internet! The characters seemed very real, and the acting was quite good. 100% recommend this.
The Conversation
Very good, not very exciting! Definitely a 70s movie. I’m not sure everyone will like this as much as I did. I really liked the camera work, and, well, all of it.
Movies You Might Like, I’m not Sure
Coda
Make sure you put on subtitles, because a lot of the movie is in ASL. It was a pretty good movie. The frustration of the mom was somewhat understandable. I don’t really know people with attitudes like the parents, but they weren’t the greatest parents. I really felt for the older brother. Anyway, it was pretty good. Not great. Pretty good.
Hell or High Water
A modern Bonnie and Clyde, but with brothers. As with most heist movies, you are asked to somewhat root for the bad guys. It was pretty good, but not great.
Matrix Reloaded
Writing this with a bit left…. That’s a lot of bullets that can’t hit shit. And good martial arts. And sex? Lots of sex. I’m entertained, but have issues. Not with the sex or martial arts…..
King Arthur, Legend of the Sword
Not as awful as I had been told. A different take on Arthur for sure. Maybe good enough to watch? I was mostly entertained, but seriously, why doesn’t anyone just kill their enemy? It did a good job of not wasting time with unnecessary moments. It explained things or showed them quickly.
Moonshot
A rom com in space! There were some unique things because of that, but, you know, it was a rom com. Could have maybe been funnier.
Little Hours
Pretty good, actually. I wasn’t sure when it started. I don’t think anyone needs to search it out. It wasn’t that good. But if you single upon it and want to laugh a couple times, maybe.
Jurassic world dominion
Plenty of nostalgia. I’m still trying to figure out how the land based dinosaurs got to every continent. There were some fun moments to be sure, but it seemed like I’d seen this movie before even though I hadn’t. It was fine.
The Northman
We never cared about any of the characters. The supernatural stuff was uneven. I kept waiting to care what happened next, and I never did. I don’t think you need to watch this. (addendum, while I don’t like it, most others I know did, so it is in this section)
A Walk Among the Tombstones
I mean, it’s Liam Neeson, so you know mostly what will happen. But it was not what I expected, and kind of creepy. I liked it.
The Unicorn Store
Hard to believe she made this the same year as Captain Marvel…..An entire movie that was a metaphor? Very odd, quirky. I was mostly entertained, but I think some will like this a lot more than others
The Noel Diary
Didn’t feel like a rom com…. Until it did. Overall, better writing and acting than most in that genre, but heavy handed at times. Solid, but not great. Not a must watch, but not bad either .
The School of Good and Evil
Silly. Kind of ridiculous. Predictable. Enjoyable. There were things that we loved, and that made us laugh. And a few things I ranted about…..
Munich, The Edge of War
Good movie. A talker…..I liked that movie, but some might find it boring.
White Noise
Truly bizarre. One of the weirdest movies I’ve ever seen. Then they dance over the credits? I have no idea if you’ll like this. I’m still not sure how I feel.
Interceptor
Not stellar. Truly not. It was sort of diehard. I don’t know what you should do about this. How much did they pay Hemsworth to do that comedy bit? Turns out he was the producer….
Holidate
If you like rom coms, you will like this one. ( I really think this should be in the previous section, but it is ANOTHER rom com)
Christmas Catch
Bad writing, bad acting, bad lighting. Julianne liked it (and that’s the only reason it isn’t in the next section)
1000 miles from Christmas
Dubbed into English, filmed in Spain. A Christmas rom com, just like it was filmed here. With a bit more adult language…..
Movies I do not Recommend
Lou
You do not need to watch this convoluted mess. Just watch a Liam Nesson movie and realize it’s the same movie, but Liam is better.
Troll
A pretty mediocre Godzilla movie about a giant troll. Norway looks pretty though. If you want a movie about trolls, watch troll hunter.. don’t watch this one. Except my friend that recommended it, he should watch it.
All the Old Knives
A great example of why caring about the characters matters. Amazingly well written, acted, directed, edited. Good story. But, we were never emotionally invested in the characters. Seriously, a great art movie. People should study how it was built, but then realize it didn’t work because who cares? Oh, and I knew the main answer from the beginning.
Matrix Revolutions
Mixed feelings. On the one hand, lots of action. On the other, it was stupid. And the action was largely pointless. Why was the defender dude such a jerk?… I mean, I can’t believe I’d never seen two and three. They are fine. Nothing more.
Black Sea
Sometimes when Nathan is here, and we start a movie that he has seen, he says we should still watch it, it is good. When we started this when he was here, he said he had seen it, and he didn’t want to watch it again. That should have been a clue…..OTOH, it was intense and never seemed nearly as long as it was. I am unsure if you should watch it or not. I liked a lot of it, but I’m not sure I loved a lot of it.
